I remember playing in my mother's jewelry box when I was child. She had a lot of pearl necklaces, bracelets and earrings in her box.
Her pearls were all different colors but I liked the ones that looked like Elizabeth Taylor's pearls most of all. I remember taking the pearls and draping them over my eyes just like Elizabeth.
Now that I'm all grown up, I'm growing my own collection of pearls. Pearls have never really gone out of style but they are worn more now.
I'm fond of freshwater pearls. Freshwater pearls are as good or better than any other pearls. They are formed in freshwater mussels (Unionidae), which live in lakes, rivers, ponds and other bodies of fresh water.
Noted for their wide range of colors and luster, freshwater pearls can be found in white, silvery white, pink, salmon, red, copper, bronze, brown, lavender, purple, green, blue, cream, and yellow.
Natural freshwater pearls are seldom perfectly round, more often than not they are baroque, slugs, or wings. Many are oblong shaped, and known as "rice pearls". Large freshwater pearls are more desirable because it takes them longer to form especially into a round shape.
Freshwater pearls have an additional benefit of being quite durable which makes them perfect for everyday wear. If you're looking for pearls with outstanding value, freshwater pearls are the great choice.
